Huuuge Games announces the acquisition of Double Star game studio

Huuuge Games, a global free-to-play game developer and publisher focused on the fast-growing multi-billion-dollar mobile gaming market, has acquired Double Star game studio, founded by Finnish mobile gaming pioneers Tuomas Erikoinen and Petri Räsänen.

Double Star Oy, based in Helsinki, Finland, is a start-up focused on creating high quality mobile games offering exceptional user experiences. Huuuge Games and Double Star are already publishing partners, working together to release Bow Land, a casual RPG game. The acquisition of Double Star marks the establishment of Huuuge’s office in Helsinki.

Co-founder Tuomas Erikoinen previously founded Part Time Monkey Oy. The studio focused on creating high quality mobile games, eventually releasing more than 15 games with downloads exceeding 50 million in aggregate. Prior to that, Tuomas created the original art for the famous Angry Birds and co-founded another studio: Boomlagoon.

Fellow co-founder Petri Räsänen has been in the gaming industry for over 12 years, focusing on game art and prototypes. Previously a Lead Artist at Seriously Digital Entertainment Ltd., he designed the core in-game visual style for multiple mobile titles including the widely played Best Fiends.

Double Star is the third acquisition successfully completed in 2020 by Huuuge Games and means that the company now has 12 offices globally, employing over 600 people.

Tuomas Erikoinen, Co-Founder at Double Star said:

‘“We are really excited to join forces with such an innovative and exciting industry giant like Huuuge Games. We know this acquisition will further enable Double Star to grow and focus on what we’re best at: creating high quality games which engage millions of players across the globe.”

Anton Gauffin, CEO at Huuuge Games said:

“We are delighted to be acquiring Double Star studio, an innovative game studio founded by industry veterans with track records of developing and releasing numerous successful games. Since Huuuge is already working with Double Star studio in the development of Bow Land, we already have first-hand experience of their knowledge of the industry and particular expertise in mobile gaming. This acquisition marks another step forward in our Build-and-Buy strategy and our increasing focus on inorganic growth opportunities. Finland has been - and continues to be - one of the world's best hubs for gaming talent. As a global company, our talent-driven strategy has proven itself time and time again in Poland, Israel, Germany and the USA.  We expect to replicate this success in Finland starting with Double Star Studios. ”
